Phebe Newman's headstone is mentioned in the 1935 news article Pioneers in Peaceful rest as being one of the older in the cemetery at the time.  It is also mentioned that she died in 1864 and was the mother of John H. Newman. 

Johns Name appears on this  lot on the Bachelors Grove Cemetery plat map. 

John's son is also buried in Bachelors Grove. Daniel Newman in lot #79.

Phebe  Smith was born in New York in 1815. Her husband  George Newman was a few years older than she and born in New York as well so we can assume they married and moved West.  They had six children togehther. The first being born in  1837 the youngest in 1855. Phebe died in 1964 at the age of  49. Her husband remarried a year later and at some point moved to Kansas. He is buried there with his second wife Mary.
